The 4 Cylinder Qld Title has been run and won and what a fantastic race it was. Rodney Midolo has been crowned the new 4 Cylinder Qld Champion in his BMW in a race that had everything. With 12 different manufacturers represented and 23 different makes of car all battling it out for the title, a class of racing was on offer that is not seen in any other speedway class in Australia.

Mathew Claydon was a surprise pole sitter after the heats with Rodney Midolo alongside on the front row. Claydon would take the lead on lap 1 only to fade early and not mount any serious challenge after lap 1 and eventually finish on the infield. Trent Dhu would challenge early to take the lead on Lap 2 until lap 5 when an incident after a restart would see Dhu sent to the rear and end any chance he had of claiming the title. Midolo would inherit the lead with Allen Schultz pressing him hard for the next 15 laps until Aaron Knox would take 2nd and the challenge to Midolo until lap 26.2015 4 Cyld title placings

Hamish Redman would pass Knox on lap 26 and battle Midolo for the lead in what would become a 4 way tussle with Knox and Brock Armstrong. The leaders turned it on until lap 36 when Redman took the lead until a lap car would eventually decide the outcome of the race. Redman, Midolo and Claydon who was a lap down would all touch, which would see Claydon go spinning onto the infield and out of the race. After a lengthy discussion the officials decided that no penalities were necessary and the race would restart from the previous lap.

This gave Midolo back the lead with 4 laps remaining on the clock. With the Crowd on their feet Redman threw everything he had at Midolo in the remaining laps, but couldn’t take the win finishing 3rd with Brock Armstrong sneaking through for second on the second last Lap. Jack Kay would finish 4th with Aaron Knox in 5th. But it was Midolo’s night with an outstanding drive in the 40 lap final to become the New Queensland 4 Cylinder Champion.

Congratulations Rodney from Fraser Shores Maryborough Speedway.
