At the 2015/2016 Super Sedan Association presentation dinner held recently at Brisbane’s Victoria Park Golf Course, Toowoomba’s Sean Black was confirmed as the winner of the Think Money Championship Series, becoming the youngest champion in the history of a series that has been won by some of the greatest names in the category. Black was a model of consistency throughout the season, accumulating numerous podium finishes and top-five results to clinch the Boettcher–Geary Championship Trophy and secure his status as one of the very best in the country.

Such was the quality of Black’s season – which also include his first interstate victory at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway – that three-time national champion Darren Kane found himself unable to make much impression, finishing more than 430 points behind in second position. The fight for the minor positions proved much tighter with Jason Campbell just 21 points adrift of Kane in third spot. Ian Brims finished fourth, with Dempsie Pails enjoying a solid season to finish a fine fifth.

Wayne Brims was the best placed of the interstate drivers who took part in the series, finishing sixth ahead of Matt Pascoe, Sam Roza, Bob McCosker and Nicholas O’Keefe, with Wayne Randall and Matt Williams rounding out the top twelve.

It was the much-travelled McCosker who proved victorious in the Development Series standings, finishing ahead of Nicholas O’Keefe and Justin Randall. Another of the younger drivers to enjoy a strong season, O’Keefe also picked up the Shock Doctor Award and the Rookie of the Year, while Randall was deemed the Most Improved Driver of the season.

Other award winners on the night were Sam Roza (Hard Charger), Nathan Polzin (Crew Chief of the Year) and Bernie Jack (Geoff McHugh Memorial Trophy), who was recognised for his outstanding commitment and dedication to Super Sedan racing, while Black was also voted Driver’s Driver by his fellow competitors.
