2013 4 Cylinder Title Round Up

10/12/12…Pam Franz….story written by Jim Cowley President

Well what an absolutely perfect weekend for speedway.  We were in Cairns for the Queensland 2012/13 Four Cylinder
Title on the 1st of December and the weather is great, the track is well prepared and the hospitality is second to none.

With 12 nominations for the title, scrutineering was a breeze. No one was found to have any faults with their cars or their gear.

Allan Jennings and myself, Jim Cowley travelled to Cairns to assist with the smooth running of this title and we were both very impressed with the management of the track and the quality of the staff and volunteers.

We were happy to see four cars travel up from the South East, that would be Al Mathers, Bevan Burton, Gary Cartwright and Toby Cryer.

The heats ran very smoothly, and we only lost one car from the starting line-up for the feature.

A local driver, Darryn Collins was the highest points scorer and chose to start the feature from the outside line.
He led for the first 25 laps then due to mechanical problems had to pull infield.   Peter Stretton then led to the chequered flag in a 30 lap race with no stoppages.   Second place went to another Cairns local, Len Pavey and Al Mathers finished third. Congratulations also go to the first standard car to finish, Lea Jones in fifth place.
