NSSS Triple Treat This Weekend

06/01/10…NASR National Office

After the huge disappointment of a washed out round four in Dubbo, the 2009/2010 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series roars back into life this weekend with three consecutive nights of action that comprise the APCO Warrnambool Tr-City Series.  The rebirth of the Tri-City last season was a huge success and produced some superb racing at all three venues, with three-time national champ Michael Nicola emerging triumphant after strong performances in all three rounds.  This year again sees a strong line-up of non-contracted drivers from three states amongst the nominations looking to upstage the series regulars and take home the $1000 on offer to the Tri-City champion.

The series-within-a-series kicks off at Hamilton’s Western Speedway on Friday night (January 8), followed by events at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway on Saturday night (January 9) and Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway on Sunday evening (January 10).  If the racing during last year’s Tri-City campaign is any indication, race fans are in for a treat this weekend as Australia’s best drivers lock horns on three distinctly different tracks.

Joining the contracted drivers in combat for all three rounds will be the likes of two-time series champion Wayne Randall, three-time Victorian titleholder Lucas Roberts and  local veteran Lionel West, along with the South Australian duo of Trevor Ware and Steve Vaughan. Several drivers have indicated their intention to contest selected rounds and, with nominations for each event remaining open until 4.30pm on race day, additional competitors from Victoria and South Australia are expected to take part. Given the fact that several non-contracted drivers upstaged the series regulars last season, the Tri-City champion may well emerge from within this group.

The creation of the Tri-City series has added an extra dimension to the Carline championship and the series final at Warrnambool last season was a sublime race that remains etched in the memory of anyone who was there to see it. This year is promising to deliver an equally impressive display, so head to Hamilton, Mount Gambier and Warrnambool this weekend for a feast of tin top action.  Racing starts at 6.00pm. Be  there!
