Vaughan Secures NSSS Berth

30/10/07…NASR/ASCF Media Release

As one of the most travelled drivers to emerge from South Australia in recent years, Angaston’s Steve Vaughan has been rewarded for his commitment with a string of excellent results in high profile Super Sedan events around the country.  With his penchant for traversing the nation in search of the best competition, coupled with his record of success both locally and interstate, Steve Vaughan is the latest competitor to be confirmed as a contracted driver with the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series.

Vaughan scored his first major success in winning the Sunline Speedway Track Championship in 1998/1999. The 1999/2000 season saw him defend his title as well as winning the South Australian Super Sedan Series and the Tri-City Super Sedan Series staged in Victoria. Vaughan successfully defended his Sunline Championship once again in 2000/2001 and finished second overall in the South Australian series on this occasion.

During the 2001/2002 season, Vaughan finished second in the Victorian Super Sedan Championship at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway, fourth in the South Australian Super Sedan Championship and second overall once again in the state series.  His 2002/2003 campaign produced an emphatic win in the Speedway City Super Sedan Showdown and a runner-up result in the Murray Bridge Championship. Vaughan finished runner-up in the Victorian Super Sedan Championship once again in 2003/2004 and then duplicated that result in the South Australian Super Sedan Championship, the Sunline Speedway Track Championship and the K-Rock Cup at Avalon Raceway.

The 2004/2005 season saw Vaughan snare a runner-up finish in the Murray Bridge Track Championship and collect a top-five result in the South Australian title at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway. The following season Vaughan took out the Murray Bridge Track Championship, finished second in the South Australian Championship and annexed a third-place finish in the Victorian Championship

During the inaugural NSSS in 2005/2006, Vaughan demonstrated some great form and genuine speed at several rounds, finishing amongst the top ten on four occasions before suffering an engine failure in the final round that relegated him to eighth overall in the point standings.  Last season, Vaughan’s NSSS campaign started strongly with top-ten results in two of the opening three rounds.  A series of setbacks plagued the remainder of his campaign though and he eventually finished outside the top twenty. However, he did bounce back to finish the season in style with a third-place finish in the South Australian Championship at Whyalla.

Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are pleased to confirm Steve Vaughan as a contracted driver in the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series.  Other drivers confirmed for the series include Wayne Randall, Michael Gee, Brad Smith, Dave Gartner, Jamie McHugh, Paddy Ward, Darren Kane, Steve Jordan, Bill Miller, Tony Barklimore and Wayne Brims with more to come.
