Street Sedans Heading to Roma 24th November 2012

15/10/12…Pam Franz…story written by Ryan Harris

The newest Speedway Australia insured venue in Queensland (Roma Speedway), will play host to the Roma Windscreens “QSCA Presidents Cup” for Street Sedans on 24th November.

In what will be a huge return to main stream speedway in Roma on 24th November, with the assistance of Roma Windscreens and the QSCA, the Street Sedan division are set to contest the QSCA Presidents Cup on a night in Roma that will also play host to Round Three of the Wild Desert Modified Productions Allstars Series and SSA Junior Sedans.

Roma Speedway Club President, Shannon Blackburn, and Aaron Alcock (Vice President) have spent some mega hours at the Roma complex over the past couple of weekends and are working overtime to tidy up the venue in readiness for the return of sedan racing to the Surat Basin. Speedway Australia have thrown their support behind the venue for the upcoming 12 months and with the help of everyone involved in sedan racing in the South East, can rally together and really support this upcoming show at Roma. We are all pushing extremely hard to make this event a huge success for there club, as the profits from this meeting will be used to build the new concrete track fence (along with other things) that they are hoping to start building during this season. With the support of the local hire company in Roma now right behind the Speedway, they plan to have all the equipment including lighting towers etc to ensure the venue is ready for a big night of Sedan racing.

Accommodation in Roma is filling fast, but there are still plenty of places to stay during that weekend and some of those with vacancies are listed below, but Roma Speedway Club President Shannon Blackburn has said camping at the track will be allowed as the venue does have operational showers.

It may not be the prettiest or newest venue around, but it does have all the ingredients to produce one hell of a show when the Street Sedans head to the wild west in Roma, for the Roma Windscreens QSCA Inc Presidents Cup and I can’t wait to be there on Saturday 24th November.

Here is the format and payout for the “Roma Windscreens” QSCA Presidents Cup:

Format

3 rounds of 8 lap heats
20 lap A Main (B Main will be run if needed)

A Main Payout

1st – $400 (plus a wonderful trophy from QSCA)
2nd – $200 (plus a wonderful trophy from QSCA)
3rd – $100 (plus a wonderful trophy from QSCA)

All other cars that start the first heat – $60

This is going to be a fantastic night to only race on a different and new venue, but showcase Street Sedan racing in the Surat Basin.

Here are some of the motels that have vacancies during the weekend of this massive race meeting, on Saturday 24th November and if you mention your coming for the Speedway there may be some discounts and specials for you:

Roma Inland Motor Inn 46225515
The Club Hotel Motel 4622 1322 (night club goes off Saturday Night)
Kings Motor Inn Steakhouse 4622 2566
Villa Holiday Park 4622 1309
Motel Carnarvon 1800 621 155
Bottle Tree Garden Motel 4622 6111

There are plenty of other options, but these all have plenty of rooms available at the moment, and remember Roma is a place where accommodation fills up quickly, so make sure you get in and book some accommodation…

Finally, I would once again like to sincerely thank the QSCA, the Roma Speedway Club and Roma Windscreens for working together to make this event a reality and to give the Street Sedans an opportunity to showcase there division at a new venue.

I would also like to thank Wild Desert for there support in the Modified Production Allstars Series that will also feature at this race meeting.  SSA Juniors are also on the program and I extend an open invitation to you all to be part of history and the night “real” sedan racing returns to Roma Speedway.

The Nomination Form for this event for all divisions will be available in the coming weeks and will be forwarded on to everyone in due course.

Also, if you can’t make it to compete but you will be travelling out there with someone that is and you are interested in helping out during the night, the club would really appreciate a hand.  Everything from scrutineers, officials or even infield staff will be needed, so please come on out for what will be a great race meeting.

If you have any queries or questions, don’t hesitate to contact Ryan Harris direct on 0407 175 341 (after business hours).
