The Carrick Speedway Drivers Association, Streeflands Logistic Solutions, Australian Modified Sedan Title will conclude tonight, with Mark Carlin of Victoria in a good position to defend his National Title, going into the final night as joint points leader.
Carlin, who currently is tied on points with Rodney Pammenter of Queensland, will start from position three in the opening heat, while Pammenter has a tougher contract starting from position nine.
Carlin (right) will be in the opening heat of the night (thirteen), in a race which also features Justin Drew. Drew will start on the outside of the front row, and is currently eighth on points and a win to Drew would see him cement a top six start in the main event. But before that becomes a reality he will no doubt have to deal with Carlin, along with Ash Parkinson who is eleventh on points, David Jacobi (14th), Ash Barron (9th), Brody Chrystie (4th) and Craig Williams (15th), in what will significantly shape the starting line-up of the A Main. A win to Carlin gaurantees him a front row start, while a second place finish, could mean the defending Champion finishes as low as fourth depending on other results, such is the closeness of the points.
Matt Nelson (10th) and Kye Blight (5th) will share the front row in heat fourteen. Allan Nash who won two heats last night will start on the back row and is currently sixth on points. Nash needs a good result to maintain a position within the top ten, such is the nature of the congested points table.
The penultimate qualifying heat will see Martin Hawson (27th) and Brodie Boss (13th) start on the front row. Hawson would love a strong result to elevate himself towards the front of the B Main, while for Boss it is to remain in the A Main automatic qualifiers. The task will be made difficult as Greg Worling (12th), Brenton Mills (3rd) and Pammenter (1st) are all in the race coming from further back in the field. Pammenter (below) has the toughest task of any driver in the top six, and will be looking to advance as far up the field as he can, to cement a starting position towards the front of the A Main field.
The final qualifying heat maybe the best opportunity for a Tasmanian victory, with Trent Quillerat starting from pole position. Starting from pole position, a victory will elevate Quillerat into a possible A Main starting position. Jason Beer (7th), Todd Doyle (16th) and Andrew Russell (17th) will start on the back rows of the grid.
With the points being so close, anything is still possible, but Mark Carlin is in the box seat to start on the front row, giving him the best chance to defend his title, won last season in Albany.
