She has the reputation of the toughest speedway track to tame in Australia and Saturday night she lived up to her name.  Mothar Mountain Speedway opened her gates to over 130 race cars, including 26 Modified Production monsters for the 2nd rond of the G & W Racing Modified Production Series and nearly as many Junior Sedans for the Performax International debut series Round 1.

Nine heats of Modified Production cars provided the expected thrills and spills that many came to enjoy, rollovers and panels flying a plenty.  After two heat wins and a second place, we saw local talent Gavin Lorensen on pole for a 30 lap A Main event with current Australia No 1 defender Todd Doyle and NSW Champion Steve Price side by side lurking out of row three.

Lights gone green kept the crowd cheering for the whole 30 laps and it was a case of ‘Dad can I borrow the keys to the car’ which saw Mark Raymont greeting the chequered flag in his Dad’s (Greg) Cooroy Auto Wreckers Falcon closely followed by his younger brother Aidan in the sister Falcon.

Our Junior Sedans had their hands full with a challenging track surface with 13 cars lined up for the A Main  Brisbane hero Charlie Brown had three heat wins and led the way off pole for the 15 lap A Main event but was sent o the rear of field early in the event providing the crowd with a fantastic spectacle, a comeback that eventuated in a race win.  Local Junior Sedan drivers Stephen English, Michael and Brendan Learoyd finished 5th, 7th & 8th respectively.

Support programs for the night saw Michael Roza winning Super Street Sedans, Kristian Walker proving too good in the Street Sedans, young star Mitchell Thomsen claiming victory in the Junior Street Sedans and Paul Redman making his mark in the 4 Cylinder Sedans.

‘It was the biggest night the club has hosted at the Mountain in years, the track was unforgiving and proved a challenge for even the most experienced drivers.  No doubt there will be many driver and crews (including myself), scratching our heads wondering where to start with repairs.’

As usual, volunteers and organisers made the night a fantastic spectacle, we look forward to your company on December 13th for another massive night of speedway action featuring V8 Methanol Super Sedan action and a full support program.
