Hutchison Makes History

Travis Hutchison will be a part of a record field for the SRE, Speedway Sedans Australia, Australian Street Stock Title, and in doing so also creates his own history, becoming the first driver from Queensland to take part in an Australian Street Stock Title.

From Maryborough, the 31 year old is just in his second season of Street Stock competition, but has been racing since the age of eleven.

“It’s awesome to be a part of history, to be racing in such a high car count of cars, with such a strong caliber of field”, said Hutchison. “I thought around 100 would be massive but 139 is unbelievable, considering the amount of cars that aren’t entered from around Australia”, he added.

Like most, Hutchison would like to start in the A Main, but realises it won’t be easy. “But with so many cars I’ll be happy to do the B Main”.

Hutchison has competed in six Feature events this season in his native Queensland, winning two and finishing second in the other four.

Hutchison will drive his immaculate 2004 VZ Commodore in the Australian Title, which officially starts on Friday with official practice.

As with many other drivers, Hutchison believes that Anthony Beare, the defending Champion will be the one to beat, noting he is the only driver guaranteed of making the A Main on Sunday night.  “There is at least ten who could win it, but one DNF and you probably won’t be in the final”, he said.
