Gartner Goes National Again for NSSS
02/11/08…NASR/ASCF Media Release
Since the inception of the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series, Penola’s Dave Gartner has proven himself to be South Australia’s leading Super Sedan exponent. Gartner has finished inside the top ten in each season of NSSS competition and has also been the highest placed South Australian competitor each time. Needless to say, Gartner will be on the series trail once again this season, confirming his place on the contracted driver roster.
Gartner first established himself on the speedway scene in the Street Stock ranks, ultimately emerging as the most accomplished competitor in the category’s history, winning five state titles and two national championships. His domination started in the 1995/1996 season when he won both the Victorian and South Australian Championships. The following year, Gartner took out the South Australian title again before blitzing the field in the Australian Championship. The 1997/1998 season saw Gartner secure a second Victorian Championship and a third consecutive South Australian Championship before successfully defending his Australian Championship to become the only driver to win back-to-back national Street Stock titles, a record that remains today.
Stepping up into the Super Sedan ranks, Gartner enjoyed instant success in the V8 category, taking out the Victorian Super Sedan Association (VSSA) Rookie of the Year award in 1999/2000 and winning the Speedway City Cup the following year. Less than 12 months later, Gartner finished second in the Victorian Super Sedan Championship before taking out the South Australian Championship. The 2003/2004 Australian Super Sedan Championship at Murray Bridge produced one of Gartner’s most memorable performances when he stormed from the rear of the field aboard Bill Miller’s Pontiac to finish fourth.
In the inaugural National Super Sedan Series, Gartner was one of the standout performers, despite his unfamiliarity with many of the series venues, clinching sixth overall in the championship, which included a pole position and runner-up finish during round five in Brisbane. Gartner carried this form into other high profile events and also secured runner-up finishes in the Murray Bridge Track Championship and the Victorian Super Sedan Championship. The following season, Gartner continued his affinity with the Brisbane circuit, finishing second once again in round two on his way to another top-ten finish in the championship.
Last season, Gartner enjoyed a remarkable run of consistency, finishing inside the top ten in seven of the eight rounds. On this occasion, Gartner was particularly strong in his home state, finishing inside the top five in the final two rounds at Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge to finish seventh overall in the championship.
Given his unwavering support of the series and his outstanding results each year, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm Dave Gartner as a contracted driver in the 2008/2009 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
