Carline NSSS Schedule Confirmed

08/07/09…NASR National Office

The National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR), in partnership with Speedway Sedans Australia (SSA), has confirmed the 2009/2010 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series schedule.

The NSSS Working Party consisting of drivers, car owners, officials and media representatives have met on two occasions in recent times to review and plan for the next tournament. After much discussion and negotiation the hugely successful series will remain at ten rounds with a welcome return to Adelaide’s Speedway City and a new stop on the calendar in Gympie, Queensland.

The series will commence in the Sunshine State with three rounds held in four days, giving the teams a busy start to the competition. Rockhampton returns as the opening round on December 28, followed by Gympie the following night prior to the cars heading to Toowoomba for the traditional New Year’s Eve party to conclude the Queensland leg.

The shape of the Gympie track will provide a new challenge to visiting drivers and a possible advantage for the Queensland based teams. Given the very strong sedan support base in Gympie, the inaugural event is sure to be a success.

The series then heads south to the wide and fast Dubbo track on Saturday, January 2. The success of the inaugural meeting last year was one of the highlights of the series.

Traveling further south, the Tri-City Series, which was re-born last year, will again be held over three consecutive nights at Hamilton on Friday, January 8, followed by Mount Gambier on Saturday, January 9 and concluding at the high-banked Warrnambool circuit on Sunday, January 10. The Victorian seaside town produced magnificent racing last year with plenty of side-by-side antics.

Avalon Raceway, which was the scene of the very first Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series round in 2006 and has featured on the schedule every year since, will host round eight on Saturday, January 16.

Adelaide’s Speedway City will hold the penultimate round on Saturday, January 23, while the Grand Final will again be hosted by Murray Bridge the following night (Sunday, January 24).

The return to Speedway City is exciting news given the Virginia venue will be the scene of the 2010 Australian Super Sedan Championship in March. Drivers will be looking forward to the opportunity to secure an advantage heading into the national title with a win in Adelaide.

The ten round series will be completed in just four weeks and, while this schedule will provide a challenge to the series drivers and crews, it will minimise the time they will be away from home and work while also lessening the impact on the various state series’. Importantly, the series finishes the week prior to the blue ribbon Apple Isle Grand Prix meeting held at Latrobe Speedway.

Acting NASR General Manager Paul Trengove is excited for Super Sedan fans as the schedule provides an absolute smorgasbord of top-level racing. “This is the fifth year of the Carline National Super Sedan Series,” he said, “and it’s fantastic to see it growing each season”.

“Our major partner, Carline Mufflers, is on board once again and we have tightened up the series with ten rounds within four weeks ending just in time for the Grand Prix in Tasmania, giving fans plenty of great racing”.

“I am particularly pleased to welcome Gympie Speedway as a new venue to the series and for Speedway City to be back on the calendar, providing a fantastic opportunity for drivers to race against the top teams in the country prior to the National Title,” said Trengove from the National Office.
