Brims v. McHugh Round Six

15/11/07…SSA Media Release

This weekend, Super Sedans are back at Brisbane International Speedway for a double header program featuring round six of the Ian Boettcher Volkswagen Championship Series and the AS Concrete Pumping Development Series.  A strong field of more than 20 cars have nominated for competition for the latest instalment in the highly competitive Super Sedan Association championship.

Once again headlining the line-up are series protagonists Wayne Brims and Jamie McHugh, the Gold Coast-based duo who have won all five opening rounds between them.  Brims currently leads the points chase after three wins, with McHugh sitting second overall in the standings.  Both drivers have won in Brisbane this season, so it seems likely that one of them will emerge victorious in Saturday night’s 30-lap feature event, despite the fact that the field of challengers grows stronger every week.

With the absence Ian Brims – who currently sits third overall in the series – from the field, Steve Pearce will be looking to take over that position in the series standings following his runner-up result in round five. However, there are several other contenders who pose a genuine threat to the series leaders.  Former national champion Darren Kane and Mackay’s Des Korn have both secured podium results already this season and both will be looking to snare their first win of the year on Saturday night.

Fresh from a feature race win last weekend in Rockhampton, Michael Doblo treks to Brisbane once again as part of his preparation for his National Series campaign later in the season and he will looking to avenge his inglorious exit from the previous series round. Meanwhile, Lismore’s Tania Smith will make her debut appearance for the season, while others expected to challenge for a place on the podium include Craig McGeorge, Geoff Phillips, Peter Warren and Frank Armstrong, who impressed at the previous round in qualifying for the Dash. Also amongst the starters are Alan Robertson, Paul Geary, David O’Keeffe, Dean Hawkins, Chris Albert and Barry Craft.

In the Development Series, Alex Jenner will be looking to expand his already considerable points lead against a small field of challengers.  Maurie Williams, Trevor Brehmer, Colin Moss, Craig Goodrum and Gympie youngster Dempsie Pails complete the field.

Gates open at 3.00pm and racing commences at 6.00pm for what will be the final Super Sedan outing in Brisbane before the National Super Sedan Series comes to town on December 29.
