Barklimore Primed for National Series
25/10/07…NASR/ASCF Media Release
Speedway sedan racing has a rich history in rural and regional areas across Australia, with many of Australia’s finest sedan competitors commencing their racing careers at regional circuits. One such driver who has made his name on the national stage from a regional locale is Tony Barklimore. Based in Parkes in central western New South Wales, Barklimore has established himself as one the leading drivers in New South Wales with a series of outstanding performances across the state and around the country. Barklimore has confirmed that he will once again be a part of the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series.
Whilst Barklimore has been a regular fixture at country venues throughout New South Wales – such as Gilgandra, Dubbo and Gunnedah – for quite a while, with plenty of success along the way, such as Club Championship wins in both Gilgandra and Cobar,. However, it has been the last few years that have seen Barklimore establish himself on the national Super Sedan landscape with some exceptional results at local and interstate venues.
Barklimore is a regular visitor to the various blue ribbon events staged around Australia each year and this willingness to take on Australia’s best drivers is now paying dividends as he accumulates a string of excellent results. For example, the 2004/2005 season saw Barklimore etch himself into the record books as the winner of the inaugural New South Wales Super Sedan Series. The six-round series was conducted at four venues throughout the state, with Barklimore taking out the opening round and finishing on the podium in five rounds on his way to the series championship. Also during 2004/2005, Barklimore was selected to represent Australia against the United States in a Super Sedan Test Match at Gilgandra Speedway.
The following season, Barklimore took part in the inaugural national series and finished 12th overall in the point standings despite missing the opening two rounds through injury. His series campaign culminated with a very impressive fourth-place finish in the final round at Adelaide’s Speedway City circuit. In local competition he collected a feature race win at Gilgandra and annexed a third-place finish in the New South Wales Super Sedan Championship at Gunnedah Speedway.
Last season, Barklimore finished 17th in the championship, once again saving his best performances until the latter stages of the series. It was the penultimate round at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway that produced his highest finish of the series when he annexed an 8th-place result. With a determination to secure better results on tour this year, Barklimore has started the 2007/2008 season in the best possible fashion, winning the opening round of the NSW series at Parramatta City Raceway last weekend.
Now firmly established as one of the leading Super Sedan drivers in Australia, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are pleased to confirm Tony Barklimore as a contracted driver in the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series. Other drivers confirmed for the series include Wayne Randall, Michael Gee, Brad Smith, Dave Gartner, Jamie McHugh, Paddy Ward, Darren Kane, Steve Jordan, Bill Miller and Wayne Brims with more to come.
