Barklimore Back for National Attack – 2008/2009 NSSS
20/10/08…NASR/ASCF Media Release
New South Welshman Tony Barklimore has been a part of the travelling NSSS troupe since the inaugural series of national Super Sedan competition, traversing across the country as a contracted driver on each occasion. Hailing from Parkes in central western New South Wales, Barklimore has firmly established himself as one the leading drivers in his home state with a series of outstanding performances at a variety of venues. Needless to say, Barklimore was quick to confirm his participation in the 2008/2009 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
Barklimore has been a mainstay of the New South Wales Super Sedan scene for a long time, accumulating race wins throughout the state at venues such as Gilgandra, Dubbo and Gunnedah. In the last few years, Barklimore has established himself on the national Super Sedan landscape with some exceptional results at local and interstate venues.
In addition to his emphatic support of the NSSS, Barklimore is a regular visitor to the various blue ribbon events staged around Australia each year and this willingness to take on Australia’s best drivers has paid dividends with a string of excellent results. In 2004/2005, Barklimore created history the winner of the inaugural New South Wales Super Sedan Series. Conducted over six rounds at four venues, Barklimore took out the opening round and finished on the podium on five occasions to snare the series championship. Also during 2004/2005, Barklimore was selected to represent Australia against the United States in a Super Sedan Test Match at Gilgandra Speedway.
The following season, Barklimore took part in the inaugural national series and finished 12th overall in the point standings despite missing the opening two rounds through injury. His series campaign culminated with a very impressive fourth-place finish in the final round at Adelaide’s Speedway City circuit. The 2005/2006 season also produced a third-place finish in the New South Wales Super Sedan Championship at Gunnedah Speedway.
His 2006/2007 NSSS campaign saw Barklimore finish 17th in the championship, once again saving his best performances until the latter stages of the series. On this occasion, it was the penultimate round at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway that produced his highest finish of the series.
Last season, against the biggest line-up of drivers ever assembled for national series competition, Barklimore started strongly and was sitting comfortably inside the top ten after five rounds of competition. He consolidated his position in the standings during round six at Hamilton before a disastrous final two rounds at Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge saw him backslide to 13th overall.
For his upcoming 2008/2009 NSSS campaign, Barklimore will be piloting the first ever Toyota Camry Super Sedan in Australia, bringing a new dimension to the category. He debuted his new mount with great success on Saturday night (October 18) with victory in the opening round of the NSW Super Sedan Series at Gunnedah Speedway.
Given his staunch support of the series since it’s inception and his commitment to the category, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are pleased to confirm Tony Barklimore as a contracted driver in the 2008/2009 National Super Sedan Series.
