Bulletin #1/2010 - Helmet Standard Update
The new Snell SA 2010 helmet standard is due to be launched this year
so NASR and speedway scrutineers will officially recognise 3 standards:
Snell SA 2010
Snell SA 2005
Snell SA 2000
However, the SA 2000 standard is due to be phased out next year. On the
1st of July 2011 Snell SA 2000 standard helmets will no longer be approved.
Therefore competitors with a Snell SA2000 helmet can continue to use it
until the middle of next year.
If you are looking at purchasing a new helmet be sure to ask sales staff
about the new Snell SA 2010 standard. Also, all competitors should check
the Snell standard of your current helmet so you can be sure yours complies
with the NASR minimum safety standards.
If you have any further quesitons, please contact Paul Trengove - NASR
Competition & Operations Manager.
18/01/10 - Engine Sealing Information - Technical Bulletin # 1001
There appears to be some confusion in the various states by engine sealers etc on what is the correct procedure to seal the relevant class engines. The SSA has noticed that engines are not being sealed correctly and hence the need for this bulletin and at the same time develop a national register for sealed engiens. This in time will improve information held on record.
SEALING AN ENGINE
a) General - (Only a SSA registered engine sealer is eligible to seal a SSA class engine). SSA supplied seals only to be easily seen when engine is in the car. It may be a good idea to seal the timing cover as well in case the sump needs to be removed for any reason. Then it can be resealed again easily.
b) Street Stock and Junior Sedans - Engine to be checked with both the head and sump removed.
Bottom of Block
- check crankshaft and conrods are correct type for the block being used and block is correct for the model of car
- no polishing, lightening or deburring, no extra counter weights on crankshaft
- check sump is visibly standard externally
- seal the sump with one seal on each side through sump to block flange
Top of Block
- measure bore and stroke and check size listed in back of book
- check pistons are the correct type, dished or not as per O.E.M. No machining / matching of pistons
Head
- measure diameter of valve head and check listed size in specification manual / OEM manual
- check valve seats, throats and ports are not enlarged or polished
- visual check on valve springs (single or double)
c) Modified and Production Class - Engine to be checked with head only removed.
- check stroke - must be standard for engine block series
- check head is the correct one for the engine block series
- seal sump - one seal each side through sump to block flange
- V6 - seal through sump to block flange
d) Super Sedans - V8 Engines - check with one head removed
- measure bore and stroke, calculate capacity - 367 cubic inches MAX
- seals to be placed on sump and timing cover
- 6 Cyl and Rotary engines - seal for eligibility only. Class identifier.
SEAL IDENTIFICATION COLOURS (by class)
Super Sedan = Yellow
Modified Production = Blue
Production Sedan = Green
Street Stock = Red
Junior = Orange
Seals are to be stamped SSA and numbered. Seals and identifier seals are available ex the SSA state office in your state.
Seals are to be placed on the engine in the following positions -
Super Sedan - 1 x Sump and Timing Cover
Modified Production / Production - 1 x Sump and Timing Cover
Junior Sedan - 2 x Sump and/or Timing gear and 1 x Cylinder Head
V6 Engines - Intake Manifold, Sump and Timing Cover to be sealed
Engine Sealing Book
The SSA Engine Sealing forms must be completed in full with all detail being entered. Distribution of the forms - top copy to competitor, second copy to state office of where the engine was sealed and remaining copy to stay in the book for future information when requested.
Existing Sealed Engines prior to 01/07/2009
A moratorium is in place until the 30th June 2012 for these engines to be resealed and to come in line with the new engine sealing system.
Please note - all engines are subject to inspection at any time, no exceptions!!!
13/12/09 - Junior Sedans - as per Memo distributed to Clubs dated 30/11/09
Speedway Sedans Australia National
Technical Director has issued a direction in relation to the fitment of
pistons in Junior Sedans.
If the piston needs to be machined in any way, to allow it to fit
and the engine to operate then it is not permitted to be used.
Should you have further queries regarding this direction please contact
Bill Peall on 0407 791 449

Front wheel drive cars must cover fire wall to the rear side of the bell housing.
Gearbox and Diff Housing - to remain standard for make and model, no cutting, grinding, drilling etc allowed. i.e. Corolla must use Corolla gear box and diff. Ratios are free as long as it fits in correct housing and are OEM.

Engine - If a standard unmodified cylinder head fits the engine block without modification it can be used. Inlet manifold and exhaust manifold must bolt on without any modification to either head or manifold and your original carburettor must fit without modification to carburettor or manifold. Cylinder head must be of same configuration, eg two valves per cylinder - inlet and exhaust manifolds same side as Australian compliance.
Modified Production Sedans
That TE-TF Cortina be permitted to replace the standard stub axle spindle with that of an XF Falcon stub axle spindle to prevent the regular occurrence of either the smaller bearings failing or just breaking the small stub axle that is standard on Cortina's, which then places the public at risk of injury when these wheels dislodge from cars during a race. This is to be done by machining the original stub axle spindle from the original position and then press fit the XF Falcon spindle into place before being welded by a certified engineer. The XF spindle is to fit in the same position as the original was removed from.
Rims - That 6.5" rims be allowed.
Suspension - That Coil Over Units be allowed as an option and be mounted in original shock absorber position. (check later decision on mounting method when available)
Fuel Tanks - All fuel tanks including plastic fuel cells MAY have fittings out of bottom/side of tank.
